Images That Excite You
Wall Two - memories of childhood spent in my aunt's kampong house in Buona Vista beginning from left to right -- a Malay kampong house and the addition of another cat 'Aldo' that passed on which the residents wanted to remember him by. Many remembered the large terra cotta vase with the dragon motif we used to either bathe from water in it or kept fishes in. Following is supposedly the oldest shophouse in this village which is still around. It's at least 60 years old I was told. They sell all kinds of paraphernalia and by the addition of the lion, you will know that this was done prior to Chinese New Year. Lastly the addition of the playground that once was there and now gone. Photos used as references courtesy of the residents. Wanted to depict the joy of childhood back then--just flying kites and running around playing with the other children was an everyday activity for us. As I worked on this, my mind was flooded with memories especially in the '60s and '70s. I went back today (22 Feb) to paintover the pipe and hopefully the tiles helped brightened the shophouse. I have also just added the two girls playing a game that was very popular then. Wonder if you have heard of 5 stones?

This one stopped me in my tracks, Belinda. I see you have is listed as a painting! If so that pipe and all the art on the far right make it appear as a photo. In any event it is an eye-catcher. FAV
