Like the way you completed this. You did not cut off the figure in the middle of a join like some do. The tonal values are great to show the lighting, and variety of shadows to give it form. The use of color in various areas to give it life, with realistic skin tones..... The pose very masculine to show off the muscles to their best advantage.

Belinda Low replied:

Hi I only managed to see comments from my desktop from work and was not able to reply you during the weekend. Looks like I have to get a new desktop soon...Yes, very thankful for your visit and you are so encouraging with your words. I feel more confident with painting figure forms now. Have a nice day and a good week ahead! :-D

When you think a piece of work will be challenging, stop it. Paintings are all lines and curves. If you can paint any form, you can paint any other form. Learned this back in 1946, when in basic training. They used a HAND, to demonstrate altitude or map reading. With an overlay of grids on the hand, showing how some were steep in one muscle and gradual in another part of the hand. When Nadine was asked if she could Paint an Arabian Show Horse, she said she could. She had never painted a horse before. She finished the commissioned painting, put a Barnwood Frame on it. Hanging on the wall it looked like a real horse looking in the window of the barn from outside.... Confidence and Practice have more to do with it, if you believe you can, you can. If you believe you cant, you cant. Why? Because if you think "I Can't" you are telling your brain in effect, " I Can, Not" your brain takes it as if you are giving yourself permission NOT to paint the subject... When you have such thoughts come to mind, Think "STOP that" do this for the next six or more weeks, whenever you have a negative thought about painting. Your brain will STOP telling you those negative things.... People have been brainwashed into believing things are difficult. You have already done the MOST difficult thing in life, learned to walk. YOU learned, because no one could convince you it was difficult. You could not understand language, but could see others walking, so you believed you could. No matter how many times you fell or failed, you just kept picking yourself up until you had enough practice to do what you wanted. You learned to walk, run, ride a bicycle and many other things, before someone convinced you some things are difficult. NOTHING IS DIFFICULT, if you allow yourself enough time to practice or learn how, just as you taught yourself many other things... You can paint any shape or form you desire, just practice ...

Fabulous, Belinda! I love the tight composition and the strong colors. It is hard to believe that this is your first painting of the human body. f/l

Belinda Low replied:

Hi AnnaJo! Thanks so much for commenting on this work. I did find it rather challenging especially when I thought that oil would be a better medium for painting the human form but no, I still stuck to acrylics! I might just try another one on oil! :-D
