Another portrait of The Man himself, but this time drawn and painted by a very talented artist John Peter Russell who hailed from Sydney, Australia. I was inspired to paint this while reading the book 'Van Gogh The Life' by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. Vincent met him in Paris amongst other artists at a studio owned by Fernand Cormon. Nobody has asked Vincent to pose before and this is about the only painting of him that was done by another artist. Russell managed to portray Vincent the way Vincent wanted the world to see him then ie. as a successful artist-businessman. He put on his best suit and when I googled, I found that nearing his end three years later in Arles, he told Theo, his brother, to "take good care of my portrait by Russell, which means a lot to me."

Russell returned to Australia and died there in 1930.
