A most meaningful and interesting wall...I had to put the characters and the thinking process that went into creating these was pretty challenging. Five of the characters are live people who are residents living in the area including Hamlet, a name given by them to a much loved feline. The present blocks of flats in the foreground opposite the road were not included except for those on the left side where you can see a little of Chip Bee Gardens occupied by the Dutch and British expatriates and still there today. I want to give this a village (kampong) feel with activities to keep the seniors busy as well as the community as a whole to use this space to chill and get to know one another. The cobbler is iconic figure as he took over from his father in a dying trade...but the expats like to get their shoes manually fixed by him. The lady sitting waiting is a resident who told me some history of this place. I want to thank her for her support and became good friends with her. Altough I had to commute 1 hour each trip to this place, this place had become my second home for the last five months since January. The man in blue facing you is Uncle Wah (Wah Sook in Cantonse) who loves watering the flowers and plants and you can see him there everyday. Last but not least, the uncle in orange shirt likes to sit out staring at the traffic and just looking at all around him. I really like this place. As for the kids--it's the weekend so no homework, but just chilling out with their friends and for once, no handphones but learning to see and observe all around them...This is what Living should be...They are requesting me to continue on with another new wall also in this space. I hope to start soon and will share when it's done.
