The Face and Excellent Self Taught Artists This is my first attempt at painting a mural in public at an underpass under a bridge by the river, and is also my first in painting a lion's head on a very large wall. It's a very exciting phase in my journey and am so glad to be part of this project. This group will have more such projects like this. I hope to be able to leave a mark wherever I paint in this country, hence my contribution. Thank you for visiting.
The names of Singapore include both historical designations and contemporary names and nicknames in various languages spoken on the island.
The English language name Singapore comes from Malay Palembang Singapura meaning "Lion City," which was in turn derived from Sanskrit. Singa comes from the Sanskrit word siṃha (सिंह), which means "lion". Pura (पुर) in Sanskrit means "town" and is a common suffix in many Indian names of places. The Sanskrit origin is due to the influence of Chola kings of India over the area, who spoke Tamil, but preferred to use Sanskrit for royal or religious titles.
Recent studies of Singapore, however, indicate that lions have never lived there, not even Asiatic lions; the beast seen by Singapore's 13th century founder, the Srivijayan Sang Nila Utama, was most likely a tiger, probably the Malayan Tiger.

Kume Bryant
Wow...amazing work Belinda! vf
Belinda Low replied:
Thanks Kume! this is not exactly my favorite perspective of what I drew. I may just return to the scene and take some more pictures. The only disadvantage of murals is that we have to go back to the source and can't carry it around too (haha). :-)
Matt Konar
Wonderful work ... Belinda, if you haven't read this book already ... I really think you would appreciate it ... "The Discovery of Genesis" How the Truths of Genesis Were Found Hidden in the Chinese Language ... the discovery was originally made by a Chinese man.
Belinda Low replied:
Hello Matt! Thanks for visiting and also for sharing with regard to the book. Yes I shall check it out! I know for a fact that the chinese writings especially the pictorial ones of old - they do depict traces of biblical history for e.g. the character 'boat' has got the number eight on top right hand corner with the mouth under it - eight were saved in the flood and they were in a boat...There were many others...Much blessings to you and your family! :-)

I love the movement and the expression, Belinda. Nicely done!
Belinda Low replied:
AnnaJo - so nice to hear from you! Yes I started loving mural when I first painted this due to the big wall and so I went wild with my brush so to speak!
Steve Taylor
It looks very ferocious. F/V
Belinda Low replied:
Thanks Steve. Yeah, It was supposed to come out with a ROAR to start off the chain of historical events that we drew and painted along the wall. It was the first BIG 'portrait' followed by others along the way.
Greta Corens
What passion Belinda. You are a force of nature! V
Belinda Low replied:
Greta - Thanks v much for your visit. Yes, I am a very intense person. I love that project cos I could paint so freely without inhibitions and the wall space allowed me just that kind of freedom to express myself...

Nice mural painting! v

Cyril - Thanks v much for visiting. Appreciate your liking this. I like murals cos I get free canvas and a large one too and so I am free w my brushstrokes! Don't feel so rigid and restricted!
Jim Fitzpatrick
Great portrait and capture of the lion's emotions! F/V
Belinda Low replied:
Thanks so much, Jim! Glad it evoked in you that there is some kind of emotion in the lion. He's supposed to ROAR announcing his arrival when legend has it that the king Sang Nila Utama named our country after what he thought he saw was a lion.
Barbara McMahon
Wow! What an amazing work Belinda! The sheer size of this work is incredible! Beautifully done! v/f
Belinda Low replied:
Thanks so much Barbara! The sheer size - You can say that again - it's my biggest 'canvas' yet and now I am hooked! So glad I joined this group! Cheers!
