Introducing the first wall I did at a well known housing estate. This was commissioned by the Minister of Parliament after he officiated at the Banda/Chinatown project last year. I waited till the elections were over and followed up with him and it took two weeks for the various agencies to approve before I could start. This took me almost a week due to the rainy weather. I had to stop and could not continue but it was a very exercise in character building namely patience and perseverance...The journey to this was almost an hour by train one way but I really do not mind doing this as I think I have found my calling - on big walls for the public and community and to leave a legacy for future generations to view this and know a little of the history and meaning behind each wall. As the wall length is about 20 feet long, I had to sectionalise it into three parts hence the inclusion of the steps with the cats and the grandpa with the child and grandpa in what looked like a village. This place used to be inhabited by Dutch expatriates and was named so by a Dutch architect so I included the windmill. This also reminds me of my childhood days in a kampong (village) setting and I repainted after having done on canvas for an earlier exhibition. The windmill was actually a replica of the one they built and stationed on top of a building not far from here, but I heard it's going to go due to urbanisation and there are no plans to keep it...and that's kind of sad. The cat sitting at the bottom is the oldest and the people there loved the strays and adopted and feed them every day. I was requested to paint this one named 'Roo'.
